Die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Ethnomedizin ist 1970 in Hamburg gegruendet worden und hat dort als rechtsfaehiger Verein ihren Sitz. Sie ist eine Vereinigung von Wissenschaftlern und die Wissenschaft foerdernden Personen und Einrichtungen, die ausschliesslich und unmittelbar gemeinnuetzige Zwecke verfolgt. Sie foerdert die interdisziplinaere Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Medizin einschliesslich der Medizinhistorie, der Humanbiologie, Pharmakologie und Botanik und angrenzender Naturwissenschaften einerseits und den Kultur- und Gesellschaftswissenschaften andererseits, insbesondere der Ethnologie, Kulturanthropologie, Soziologie, Psychologie und Volkskunde mit dem Ziel, das Studium der Volksmedizinen, aber auch der Humanoekologie und Medizinsoziologie zu intensivieren. Insbesondere soll die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Ethnomedizin als Herausgeber einer ethnomedizinischen Zeitschrift dieses Ziel foerdern sowie durch regelmaessige Fachtagungen und durch die Sammlung themenbezogenen Schrifttums die wissenschaftliche Diskussionsebene verbreitern.

ICMAP promotes the role of and exchange of information about medicinal and aromatic plants in science, medicine and industry. The Council coordinates and stimulates cooperation between partners by providing a forum for mobilizing ideas, actions, discussions, long term visions, measures in education and training in all fields related to these plants.

IASTAM is an international organisation in the field of Asian medicine that embraces both academics and practitioners in the facilitation of free exchange of knowledge about related commercial interests or therapeutic regimes.

With an international membership, the Austrian Society for Ethnomedicine aims to enhance interdisciplinary cooperation between the sciences in the field of ethnomedicine and medical anthropology, and to support research and presentation of ethnomedicine in Austria.
