The Autonomous University of Barcelona (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, in Catalan) is a public university located 20 kilometers outside of Barcelona, Spain. Consisting of 50 departments in the experimental, life, social and human sciences, the UAB is a pioneering institution in terms of fostering research.

The Institut de Ciència i Tecnología Ambientals (ICTA) is one of Europe’s leading centres in environmental studies, distinguished by its international focus, multi-disciplinary base, and attempts to foster cooperation between the various stakeholders on sustainability founded on social civil responsibility.

Currently, research at ICTA focuses on:

• Biodiversity, agroecology and ethnoecology;
• Global and climate change, marine geoscience and oceanography;
• Industrial ecology, ACV, E&MFA and ecodesign;
• Ecological economics, environmental sociology, public policies and the environment;
• Private companies and the environment, environmental management and accounting, social and corporate responsibility;
• Energy, economics, society and the environment;
• Water management: social, territorial, technology and environmental considerations and
• Monitoring the environment, pollution and aerobiology.
