Joint Monitoring Team: A group of 2 to 5 members of a local community with a special interest in wildlife who join the staff of a protected area on patrols. Ideally, this team keeps a logbook with monitoring data; the logbook stays in the community at all times. According to Poulson and Luanglath (2005), members of this team are considered naturalists always present in the protected area, and are particularly useful in providing information about the rarest and most threatened wildlife species, and in fostering dialogue about conservation management strategies for these species.
