home gardens

Home gardens, also known as house gardens, household gardens, and kitchen gardens are adjacent to the house where the gardeners live (Vogl et al. 2004). Home gardens are multifunctional agroforestry systems, sometimes called multistrata systems because their canopy structure ranges from root crops to tall trees. Home gardens contribute to household subsistence and often generate income, and plants are typically used for more than one purpose. [JG]
